Fire engulfed about half a dozen garment shops in Indira Market near Pavilion Ground in Dehradun on Friday.
The information of the blaze spreading in the market reached the fire station and Kotwali police at around 9 am on Friday.
They then rushed to the incident site. Three fire tenders took nearly an hour to put out the blaze. All the garment items of these shops were reduced to ashes in the blaze, police said, adding that there was no casualty though.
The garments which got charred in the blaze are estimated to be worth several lakhs, the owners of the shops claimed. Dehradun fire station officer Shiv Prasad Mamgai said that swift action on their part had stopped the flames from spreading further.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he said, adding that as per preliminary inquiry, short circuit might have caused it.
