Fire broke out at two places in Dehradun city on Monday — at Allahabad Bank building near Clock Tower and a residential house at Mannuganj in Machchhibazar.
Police sources said that fire erupted in the second floor of the Allahabad Bank building on the day the bank was closed on Gandhi Jayanti. As flame was found leaping from the second floor of the bank it triggered panic among the people. Firemen rushed to the site and reached the second floor with the help of a ladder. Three fire tenders took nearly an hour to put out the blaze. Dehradun Fire Station officer Shiv Prasad Mamgai said that swift action on their part had stopped the flames from spreading further. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, he said, adding that as per preliminary inquiry, short circuit might have caused it. A bank official said that the fire seemed to have destroyed materials worth lakhs of rupees. “The damage is yet to be estimated. We would soon submit the details of the loss,” he said.
Another fire incident occurred in a residential house at Mannuganj in Machchhibazar at 12.45 pm on Monday. The house belongs to one Amit Chakraborty.
Mamgai said that the flame was put out after two mini- fire tenders struggled with it for nearly an hour.
