A massive fire broke out in the warehouse of Hindustan lever in SIDCUl about 6 am on Friday. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the flames. Only by the afternoon, the blaze was put out, said the fire department employees engaged in the fire- fighting operation.
No casualty was reported as there was no one present in the warehouse when the blaze broke out. The Hindustan lever officials said that they were assessing the damage caused by the fire to the goods stored in the warehouse. However, SSP Haridwar said that the fire, given its intensity, might have caused a lot of damage to the goods stocked in the building. It is learnt that a short circuit on the second floor of the building caused the blaze.
Speaking to The Pioneer, the fire safety officer P S Bhandari said, “On receiving information, one fire- fighting van from CISF was immediately sent. later, two more from Mayapur fire station and three from other stations were sent. It took us around six hours to completely douse the flame. We had the surrounding areas vacated to ensure safety of others residing nearby.”
SSP said that they were probing whether the company had made sufficient fire safety measures. “Besides, we are also investigating whether the company has taken NOC from the fire department,” he added.
