In the accidental fire case which resulted in the death of a minor in a mattress warehouse at Chandrabani, Patelnagar on May 28, the father of the deceased filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Monday.

According to the complainant the deceased minor was working in the warehouse and died because of the carelessness of the owner Ramesh Chaturvedi.

Chairperson of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR), Usha Negi told The Pioneer, “After the intervention of SCPCR, the father of the deceased 13-year old minor has filed an FIR.

This is a serious issue; the case should have been registered much earlier. Police were not supposed to wait for the victim party to come forward and file an FIR.”

Superintendent of Police (city) Shweta Choubey said, “The FIR has been registered. Now we will be taking statements from the victim party, warehouse owner and the people who were present there at the time of incident.”

Father of the deceased minor said, “The warehouse owner Ramesh Chaturvedi had told me that my son will be able to earn as well as learn a new skill by working in that warehouse.

We are financially poor, so we thought that this might be a good thing for the family. My son used to come back from school and then work in the warehouse. On holidays he used to work full time.”

He further added, “The owner was threatening us to not file any complaint against him. He also asked us to give him in writing that my son was not working there.”
