FIR against former jailor for unauthorised mining on jail lands

Published on:
Acting on the order of IG Jail PVK Prasad issued following direction from the State administration, Sitarganj police has lodged a case against Rajeev Kumar Shukla, a former jailor of Sampurnanand Central Jail based at Sitarganj in Udham Singh Nagar district, tagging Shukla with the charge of conducting unauthorised mining on the jail lands. Through this order the State administration has attempted to show that they would not brook unauthorised mining in the Government lands, State administration  sources said.
Police sources said things followed after the state administration issued order to take steps against Shukla for his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities on the jail lands in Sitarganj.
They said that illegal mining was done rather on a wide scale in Sampurnanand Central jail in the year 2012-13 when Shukla was the jailor. Thousands of cubic metres of mined materials and sands were allegedly lifted illegally from the jail land. After things came into light, a departmental inquiry was ordered against the then jailor Shukla.  Shukla was transferred to Pauri Jail.
Sources said that the departmental report revealed that a large amount of mined materials and sands   were lifted from the said jail lands at the behest of the then jailor during 2012-13.
After the report was submitted to the then DM in February 2013 the latter forwarded it to the State administration, asking for action. The State administration has subsequently directed the jail administration to take action over the same issue.
Things progressed as IG Jail PVK Prasad ordered the executing jailor TD Joshi to lodge an FIR against Shukla in the local police station. Following the direction of the IG, TD Joshi registered a complaint at Sitarganj Police Station. Subsequently, a case under section 13 of Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered against the former jailor Shukla.
Sitarganj Police Station inspector DC Bisht said that team will be formed to investigate the case. State IG Prasad said that FIR has been registered based on the report received from the State
administration.
