Finally, Mishra's marathon lecture ends

Published on:

The marathon lecture of Arvind Mishra finally ended at 1:42 am on Friday; the young assistant Professor at the Graphic Era University lectured continuously for 139 hours, 42 minutes and 39 seconds to stake his claim for entry into the Guinness book of world records. The student and faculty of the University took  turns to act an audience for the 6 days and 6 nights lecture on scientific computations given by Mishra.

Mishra stopped only when he had taken a big and probably insurmountable lead of over 18 hours from Poland’s Errol Muzawazi, the current record holder of giving longest lecture. He was taken to hospital for medical checkups immediately after his unique feat where the doctors advised him rest. Fresh after the much-needed sleep, a jubilant Mishra arrived at the college campus amid thumping of drums and celebrations. The students and faculty garlanded him at the university gate and took him in a procession towards the auditorium in an open jeep.

Interacting with the students Mishra said that the objective of his marathon lecture was to give a message of dedication and hard work to the students. He said that he was a student when he heard about the achievement of Muzawazi in 2009 and at that time he had decided to break the record someday. He said that  the academic environment of the Graphic Era University prompted him to give a serious attempt at the world record; he added that he lectured for more than 100 hours three times before embarking on the attempt on March 1. Mishra thanked his colleagues, students and Chairman of the University Kamal Ghansala for giving him much needed support.

The Chancellor of the University RC Joshi presented the letter mentioning two out of turn increments to Mishra on the occasion. The former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Major General BC Khanduri congratulated Mishra for making the state proud by his record breaking achievement.
