The medical education department of Uttarakhand would issue a final notice to the Sri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) Medical College on allegation of charging more fees from the students. The department had earlier issued notice to the college asking it to submit its reply on the allegation of charging more fees.
The apex body of medical education, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has fixed a fee of Rs five lakh per annum for the MBBS course. The private colleges are bound to not charge more fees than the fees stipulated by the MCI. Some students of the college have alleged that the college authorities are charging three times more fees than the prescribed fees from them. It is learnt that the college has asked the students to submit a similar amount of money as fees for second year of MBBS course.
The Director of Medical education department Dr Ashutosh Sayana told The Pioneer that the department had received complaints about the college receiving more fees than prescribed from the students. He said that the department had earlier warned the private colleges of the state about charging more fees from the students. Dr Sayana said that the department would soon issue a final notice to the college.
The spokesperson of the SGRR medical college Bhupendra Raturi said that he is not in knowledge of any notice served by the department.
It is pertinent to mention here that on the directive of Supreme Court (SC), the government has abolished the college quota in private medical colleges. The admissions in all the colleges both private and government are now done on the basis of a combined medical entrance examination, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The admissions are done on the basis of an all India counseling session.
