Citizens who experienced some relief from the unscheduled power cuts during the festive season, experienced a tough time due to power cuts here on Monday.
The electricity supply that went off around 2pm on Monday afternoon, could be restored in different parts of the Haldwani city including the Gasgodam Road, Mukhani, the main Haldwani city, the Kaladhungi Road, Kushmkhera and adjacent areas only after 4 pm on the same day .
Apart from the domestic consumers, the industry sector seems to be worst hit due to poor availability of power. As the industrialists have complained here, shortage of electricity supply to industries for about six hours daily have become a routine affair.
In the meanwhile, as the figures provided by the Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) suggest, whereas the gross availability of power in Uttarakhand is presently around 30.80 million unit (mu) per day i.e. about 8.91 mu per day from domestic sources, about 10.59 mu per day from Central pool and rest about 11.30 mu per day from other sources, the demand for the power has continuously been around 32.70 mu per day of late showing a gap of about 1.90 mu per day between demand and supply.
And to meet the shortfall between demand and availability of electricity, unscheduled power cuts are being imposed on domestic and commercial sectors on routine basis.
The power situation may only worsen in the coming days ahead during winter season when atmospheric temperature remains low leading to high demand for electricity.
