In Uttarakhand there are 963 females against 1000 males (census 2011) but what could be termed as a positive sign for the state and its ever flourishing girl education, the female students outnumber the male students in class X and XII examinations of Uttarakhand Vidhyalayi Shiksha Parishad (UVSP). The examination of Uttarakhand Board- UVSP- is slated to start on March 17 and end on April 10.
A total of the 77083 girls are enrolled in class X examination of the board this year as compared with 76730 boys. In class XII too the girls are far ahead of boys. In this class 65539 boys are slated to appear in the examination while 67878 girls are enrolled for the examination. It is not though that more girls are merely appearing in the board examination. They are in fact performing much better then boys in these examinations. The data of last few years clearly shows that girls are far ahead of boys in pass percentage and securing position in merit list. In the class XII examination of the year 2016, the pass percentage of girl students stood at 83.14, much higher than the boys who managed a pass percentage of 73.55 only. In the class X examination also the girls with a pass percentage of 76.54 percent pipped the boys to the post who had a pass percentage of 70.48.
Meanwhile the UVSP is gearing itself up for holding free and fair examinations in the state. It has set up 1319 examination centres in the state for upcoming class X and XII board examinations.
