Though one year has passed since the flood disaster wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand, the situation in the affected areas in Tehri district has not improved.
The residents of more than two dozen villages threatened by landslides continue to live in danger as the State Government has not yet facilitated their resettlement. It is pertinent to mention here that residents of 29 villages in Tehri district that were already at risk from landslide have been facing greater danger since disaster struck the State on June 16-17 last year.
The survey team sent by the Government had also recommended that these villages be relocated for the safety of the villagers but the relocation process has not started so far.In view of the danger posed by landslides, the residents of Parody, Indrola, Med Marwadi, Bisan,Chandravan, Chaunnana, Chawasera, Sarmoli, Dharmpur, Paneth, Maheda, Ramolsadi, Dadwadi, Jijli, Banali Dodag, Thapla, Khitta, Aagar, Bhainsar, Daunr and other villages have to be relocated.
However, due to the laxity of the authorities concerned the villagers at risk are still awaiting resettlement.Sumer Singh of Banali village says that his village had been witnessing landslides for the past many years but the situation had worsened after last year’s disaster.
He stated that due to lack of information the villagers were not certain about the time frame in which the relocation would take place. The district administration officials claim that the compensation had been paid to the disaster affected people and gradually the pending work projects related to disaster were being completed.
