Fate of Golden Fish CSD canteen hangs in balance

The permission for the construction of Golden Fish CSD canteen in Pauri has not yet been accorded by the Army Headquarters though land has already been purchased from the Pauri municipality for the Canteen Store Department (CSD) canteen. Though many proposals have been sent for the construction of the canteen on this land, no progress has been made by the authorities.

The land purchased for the construction of the CSD canteen is situated near the Treasury on the road leading to the block office. This plot had been purchased at a sum of Rs90,000. Though many proposals were sent seeking approval for the construction of the canteen, no progress has been made in this regard. The Golden Fish CSD canteen has been operating since 2000 from a rented compound in the heart of the Pauri town on the road to Srinagar.

Ex-servicemen have demanded that the building of the CSD canteen be constructed as early possible, because presently the canteen is functioning in a building which doesn’t have adequate space which is causing inconvenience to customers. There are more than 8,000 ex-serviceman who are enrolled as customers of this canteen which is also used by serving army personnel during their holidays.

This CSD canteen covers the customers of Srinagar, Chhakisain, Tripalisain and many other places of the district. According to official sources, in the year 2010, the estimated cost of constructing the Golden Fish CSD canteen was Rs70 lakh and this estimate had been sent for approval to higher authorities at the command headquarters in Bareilly from where it had been sent to the command headquarters in lucknow.

In addition to adequate space for storage of beverages and domestic articles sold in the canteen, the canteen building proposed to be constructed will also include an office room, waiting space for customers and other facilities including a cafeteria selling tea and snacks.
