The Uttarakhand Government has announced that a fast-track court would deal with the rape-cum-murder case involving a seven- year- old girl that happened in Halwani on November 20.
After visiting family members of the deceased at Kathgodam’s Shishmahal area on Friday, the Chief Minister Harish Rawat said the decision has been taken to ensure that the guilty are brought to justice at the earliest.
“The incident has shaken us all. I have no words to express my grief and anger. But I assure that my Government would leave no stone unturned to give justice to the family members of the deceased. We have decided to set up a team of senior advocates of the High Court to fight the case”, the CM said.
He went on to add, “This apart, we have also appointed a monitoring committee to be headed by Additional Secretary Shailesh Bagoli to monitor the matter. At the same time, I would also like to say that now the Government has decided to ensure that all the public functions are covered by CCTVs so that proper vigil could be maintained to avert any unsavoury incident.
“Apart from that, we have also decided to strengthen our policing system by way of opening more police stations and police check- posts”, the CM said.
However, when the issue of political leaders not showing up at the agitation sites, he said they were otherwise pre-occupied, citing the State Assembly session. “My Cabinet colleagues Indira Haridayesh and Yashpal Arya and other leaders are here with me now. Besides, our party leaders have been present here”, the CM maintained.
