More than 20 families threatened by landslide near the Raees Hotel in Nainital came out on the road with their possessions.
On encountering the Nainital district magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman at the site, they demanded to be shifted to municipal homes constructed at Durgapur. The DM reportedly told them to stay in rented accommodations for the time being. Hearing this, the families started to protest at the site. The local MLA Sanjiv Arya also reached the site and asked the district magistrate to rehabilitate the affected families in Durgapur.
Citing the High Court, the DM expressed his inability to do so. Not satisfied with this response, the MLA questioned the role of the administration if the disaster affected people are expected to make arrangements for themselves.
He also joined the affected families in the protest demonstration. At the time, local Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manoj Joshi and others started raising slogans against the administration.
The affected families communicated their problem to the MLA who assured them that a solution will be finalised to their problems.
Meanwhile, the district magistrate Vinod Kumar Suman informed that the affected families will be relocated to Government buildings.
A meeting will be held on September 24 for allocation of homes in the Durgapur area. Along with the local MLA, the officials of the Nainital municipality and other public representatives will also be attending this meeting.
