Tightening the noose around the doctors who are defying the transfer order, the State Government has decided not to clear their salaries unless and until they join their new places of work immediately.
In tune with the vow taken by the State Government to curb migration from the hills to the plains through providing the highlanders with adequate medical facilities, over 200 doctors settled in the plains have been given the order to march to the hills. However, the well-intentioned move is hitting roadblocks with the reluctant doctors, rolling out myriad excuses to put the order on hold. It is learnt that they are mulling to move court to have a stay order on their transfers.
The state government has made it clear that it would not brook any excuse to hold the transfer order. "The decision to hold clearance of salaries for such defiant doctors is just the beginning. More would follow if they remain defiant in the coming days," says a senior official who is dealing with the matter.
