The investigation committee of medical and health department which had issued notices to some Chief Medical Officers (CMO) in a scam involving fake fuel bills has got reply from only two CMOs till Friday even tough the fifteen day time given to them for reply has elapsed. When contacted the officiating Director General of Health Services Dr l K Gusain confirmed that an inquiry is in progress against some CMOs. He said that only two CMOs have submitted the reply of the notice and added that the inquiry is looking at every aspect of the scam. Dr Gusain however refused to divulge number of CMOs involved in the scam and other details.  Dr Guain incidentally is the head of the inquiry committee setup by the health and family welfare department to look into the scam. It appears that after the expiry of the notice period the department may take punitive measures against the officials involved in the scam. The Director General (DG) of Medical Health Department Dr G S Joshi is currently on a long leave and is expected to join duty on October 20. The departmental sources reveal that the final decision on the fate of the CMOs involved could be taken after the DG resumes office. The reports suggest that 8 CMOs including some retried officers are facing the inquiry in a scam which involved fake fuel bills. It is believed that these officials in collusion with some travel agencies siphoned money worth lakhs from the government treasury.
