To placate all the squabbling factions ahead of the high-stake general election, the Congress high command has accommodated members of the factions in the newly-constituted parliamentary board, disciplinary committee and coordination committee.
Releasing the list of the party functionaries here on Wednesday, the State Congress in-charge, Anugrah Narayan Singh said that all the prominent leaders of Congress in Uttarakhand have been included in these committees.
In the important parliamentary board, 30 leaders have been included. Among those included are the former State Congress president Kishore Upadhyaya, former MPs-K C Singh Baba AND Mahendra Pal Singh and MLAs Karan Mahra, Manoj Rawat, Adesh Chauhan , Furkan Ahmed and Mamta Rakesh.
The board also has former Ministers included as members like Tilak Raj Behad, Dinesh Agarwal, Soorveer Singh Sajwan, Harish Chandra Durgapal, Rajendra Singh Bhandari and Ram Singh Saini besides the former deputy Speaker Anusuya Prasad Maikhuri.
Former MLAs-Ranjit Rawat, Mayukh Mahar, Ganesh Godiyal, Madan Bisht, Vikram Singh Negi, Jeet Ram and Manoj Tiwari-have also been included in the parliamentary board along with leaders like S P Singh, Ashok Verma, P D Bhatt and Brahmswarup Brahmchari.
In the coordination committee, the party has accommodated 31 members, including former Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Rajya Sabha MP Pradip Tamta, MLAs Qazi Nizammuddin and Rajkumar and former Ministers Mantri Prasad Naithani, Surendra Singh Negi, Matbar Singh Kandari, Mahendra Singh Mehra, Navprabhat, Surendra Chandra Arya and Hira Singh Bisht.
The party has also appointed a nine-member disciplinary committee headed by Pramod Kumar Singh.
The party insiders say that parliamentary board and coordination committee being packed with Harish Rawat loyalists has confirmed the importance the former Chief Minister enjoys among the party’s top brass. “However, the faction led by the PCC chief Pritam Singh and the leader of the opposition in State Assembly Indira Hridayesh has not been given a short shrift.
It is a fine example of delicately modulated balancing act, crafted with eyes on the upcoming general election,” says a State Congress watcher.
