Factionalism, a disease often grips political parties, seems to have caused its affect on the state unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) known for discipline among its workers. Senior leaders, however, make tall claim about ‘all is well’ and the party workers are working round the clock to ensure victory of the BSP mayoral candidate.
Factionalism emerged in the party since several senior leaders, who wanted to try their luck for the post of mayor on the party ticket, were not given importance. For the discipline, the leaders cannot speak of their heart publicly, but they are working with half strength that weakened the organisation.
The scene is not very different in Haridwar, Roorkie and Udham Singh Nagar where several senior leaders of the party are angry since they were not given ticket. The party is also struggling to keep bickering away from its Haridwar unit that brought victory to three BSP candidates during assembly polls.
It is also being said that some angry leaders of the party are not taking keen interest in the poll campaigning which is going at slow pace. If party sources are to be believed two senior leaders are not in good terms with the state president. But they don’t want to speak anything into the matter on public platform since it may incur wrath of the senior leaders.
A party functionary claimed that the organisation and candidates were working together to ensure victory of the party in civic body polls.
However, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) state unit president Meghraj denied any factionalism in the party. He also denied having any difference with any of the party functionaries. He said that the party workers were completely with the mayoral candidates and they were working hard to ensure victory of the party.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) would come out with flying colours in civic polls. He said that he was also campaigning in favour of party candidates for mayoral posts and those trying luck for the post of councillors.
