Dehradun police have arrested a woman who had allegedly stolen jewellery worth lakhs of rupees from the home of Dharampur resident Sangeeta Negi. Police recovered stolen items from her possession.
According to the officials, the accused had first befriended the victim through a social networking website before visiting her home and stealing from her. The accused has been identified as Himachal Pradesh native Jyoti Bisht living in New Delhi, said Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Rautela on Wednesday.
In her written complaint, Sangeeta Negi stated that she had come into contact with Jyoti Bisht through Facebook. Bisht had reached Dehradun on January 27, 2014 for her treatment in CMI, Dehradun.
She had then stayed in Negi's home located at Dharampur. Bisht had also visited the home of Negi's mother located in Premnagar and had returned to Delhi after completing her treatment. Few days after her departure, Negi noticed that jewellery was missing from her home.
Bisht again visited her on March 26 and decamped with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees. On April 7, when Negi opened the almirah she discovered that her jewellery was missing. On April 8, Negi had submitted a written complaint in the Nehru Colony police station and an FIR under section 380 of IPC was registered against the accused. Acting on this case, police arrested Bisht from Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh and recovered the stolen items from her possession.
