Eye for eye: Anurag for befitting reply to those conspiring against India

Eye for eye and tooth for tooth is what BCCI chairman Anurag Thakur prescribed for anybody or any country out to split India while he was speaking at the inaugural session of the four-day long annual festival Thomso-16 of IIT Roorkee on Friday. “India should be prepared to give a befitting reply to one conspiring to divide or harm the country,” he affirmed.

He, however, dwelt on education too, saying that the standard of education fast declining was a matter of worry for the country. “We would have to think over Shiksha (education) forgetting the Saksharta (literacy) presently. Something must be done to give the students the true education,” he stressed.

Speaking of the prospects of sports for Uttarakhand, the State he hailed from, Anurag said he would be happy to have big matches and tournaments held in the hill State.

lauding the Narendra Modi Government, he said that the the Prime Minister is a visionary leader. When asked about the decision of the Supreme Court in curtailing BCCI’s financial powers, he said he had full faith in the judiciary.

Notably, the Supreme Court ruled in a landmark judgment that the cricketing body could not enter into contracts relating to media rights, ground rights and others above the fixed limits without seeking approval.

Thomso is the annual youth festival of Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, recognised as one of the greatest youth festivals of India. The fest was named "Thomso" after the founder, the then lieutenant Governor, Sir James Thomason. In due course, the state government proclaimed Thomso as the "Annual Youth Festival of Uttarakhand".

The fest would play host to those who have gained fame in the fields of music, fashion, games, cinema, adventure, art, quizzing, fashion, literature, the organisers say.
