'Exploitation of workers may be cause of unrest'

Observers say that the blatant exploitation of the contractual labourers working in the factory might have spawned the unrest that rocked the Baba Ramdev run unit on Thursday. This might account for such workers joining hands with the miscreants who went on the rampage.  “Pent-up frustration might have vented into relief through the violence they have indulged in. However, the Patanjali unit coming under attack repeatedly is a matter that the company management should deeply ponder over,” said an observer.

Police, however, sounded baffled over what had goaded the villagers to go for the violence. “We thought that the matter had been settled after the company agreed to pay the compensation of `5 lakh.

Besides, jobs were assured too for two of the family members of the deceased. But things flared up thereafter, giving us tough time to negotiate the violence, given the number of the people involved,” one of the cops who was present on the spot tackling  the clash said.

Speaking to The Pioneer, SP rural Parminder Dobhal said, “Following the complaint received  from Patanjali management, a case has been registered against 250 unidentified persons. Thirteen have been arrested. No case has been registered from the villagers or the victims’ side as yet.”
