Experts demand effective steps to tackle radiation

Published on:

A person nowadays is surrounded by radiation from various sources and this radiation is affecting humans and all living beings in various ways. Effective steps need to be taken to tackle such radiation and its effects.  This was the view expressed by experts at a meet on the

|subject of identification of radiation and awareness on it organised at the Garhwal Central University, Swami Ram Tirtha (SRT) campus, Badshahithaul. The SRT campus director Professor RC Ramola said that much work is being done in the field of radiation in the international sphere. However, little is being done in this field in India where even the radiation map has not yet been prepared. It is vital to know the level of natural radiation in order to construct a nuclear reactor. Considering this, it is all the more important to make the radiation map of the country without further delay.

He said that the level of radiation is more than normal in various parts of Uttarakhand, Kerala and Odisha. Dr Rosalyn Mishra from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai spoke on new techniques for mapping radiation. Scientists need to consider the technological development and incorporated necessary changes in their work, added Mishra. Scientist from Germany, Peter Bosyu said that various errors are possible if proper care is not observed while mapping of radiation.
