Experiences of ex-DGP Ganapathy

Published on:

The State’s Director General of Police, MA Ganapathy, who has been selected for the post of Additional Director General of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) by the Union Government few days ago, has expressed a little bit of dissatisfaction with his tenure as the DGP because few works which he was striving hard to expedite, could not be completed though few of them have completed. He said as urbanisation is expanding while the State still has revenue policing areas, he strove hard to expand the policing area and also achieved success in this attempt.

Talking to The Pioneer, Ganapathy, who was appointed as the DGP of Uttarakahnd during the President’s rule between March 27 and May 10, 2016, has mooted an idea that to boost the morale of the force posts up to the Deputy Superintendent of Police rank should be filled through promotion so that personnel would get a direct professional target to pursue for which they would also work more efficiently. Once their efficiency increases, the law and order situation would also improve considerably.

Sharing his experience he said in view of Maoist activity, which got reported passively, he had strove hard to open police stations in revenue policing areas and he was successful in the effort.

He also managed to increase the jurisdictional areas of the existing police stations near revenue areas. He managed to convince the Government about the need for expanding the jurisdictional areas of the police stations. Ganapathy hoped that in the coming days state police area would expand further.

Ganapathy, who has been assigned the task of airport security, has said that it is really challenging because people opt for aviation service to reach their destination fast and these days traffic has increased so the challenge has also increased drastically.

Currently, Kanwad Mela is going on and as he does not want to leave his current post in the middle of it, he would try to seek relieving order after it. He said that currently there is no specific input regarding Kanwad Mela but some elements in the media keep running some news to boost their own ratings.

Despite all this he has made fool-proof arrangement. He said that few instances may happen but the police have put on strong force of quick response team (QRT), which can reach the incident site within a few minutes. He further said that as there is no separate budget for Kanwad mela, the State has to manage it with its own resources.

For this he suggested that State can impose entry fee but it would be possible once the political bosses agree. With this State can manage to mobilise resources for its conduct.

Talking about the Vidhan Sabha security threat after discovery of explosive inside the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, DGP said that now speaker has instructed the police to make sure that no one especially those who come along with ministers and MlAs, enter into the Vidhan

Sabha premises unless and until they have valid pass for it. He reiterated that the police capable of dealing with any exigency and once approval is received from the political executive then the police can enforce any order at any given point of time.
