Expelled constables to be reappointed

Published on:

The constables, whose candidatures were rejected by the Police department and lost litigation in the High court, have called off their strike after State Governments’ assurance that they would be reappointed.

They were protesting at Parade Ground for long. It should be mentioned here that the after their appointments, the State Police department had terminated them after April, 2011, as they had filed their application from more than two districts. Since then they were putting pressure on the State Government for their reinstatement and ultimately they succeeded. Uttarakhand DGP BS Sidhu said that these constables will be re-appointed after medical and physical test. Police department will also conduct their police verification.

He further said that the department will conduct three month’s special training for those constables who had completed mandatory nine month’s training while those have not completed such training will be trained at Narendranagar Police Training Centre. Pradeep Tamta, whose candidature was rejected in July 2012 said, “I was recruited in the year 2010-11. But my candidature was rejected because I had submitted application from two districts Haridwar and Udhamsinghnagar.”

According to him, the police department started rejecting candidatures of such constables after April 2011. Tamta expressed satisfaction at government’s decision and considered it as boon for them. “We have decided to call off our agitation after government’s assurance of fulfill our demand,” he added. Robin Kumar, another constable said that he had completed nine months training in the year 2011 at Narendranagar Police training centre and he was deputed in Haridwar. After few months of his job at Haridwar, he was disqualified by the police department. He admitted his mistake by submitting application forms from two districts.

Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (Panwar faction) leader Parmila Rawat who was present at Parade Ground said that she has been supporting these constables since police department had started rejecting their candidature. She expressed satisfaction at government’s decision.  It should be mentioned here that the State Government has decided to re-appoint all the 424 police constables whose candidature were rejected after being caught submitting their applications from two different districts in the state.

In the constable recruitment (2010-11), the government had issued guidelines directing applicants to submit single application in any one district of the state. Despite this, around 850 applicants had submitted their form in two districts which was against recruitment advertisement’s guidelines. Around 425 constables who caught during recruitment process were expelled while remaining were expelled after their recruitment in the department.
