Facing shortage of police personnel in the State, the police department is going to conduct a written test for direct recruitment for 364 posts of sub-inspectors on April 5. A total of 18,697 candidates will appear in this written test, which will be conducted by GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUAT), Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. This test will be held at the district levels and all possible steps have been taken to maintain transparency during the test, said State DGP BS Sidhu, adding that the same would be maintained in the process of evaluation and announcement of the results.

The rankers’ examination for the promotion of constables and head constables on 304 posts of sub-inspectors will be held on March 1 (Sunday). A total of 10,418 constables and head constables will appear in this test. As per the existing rule, constables and head constables aged up to 45 years can appear in the rankers’ examination for the recruitment to the posts of sub-inspectors. The examination will be conducted by the Uttarakhand Technical Education Council, Roorkee.

Replying to a question whether the large number constables and head constables appearing in the test on March1 are seeking leave from their departments concerned, State ADGP (administration) Ram Singh Meena said that policemen are being given leave as per the rule. Around ten per cent of total police’s strength can be given leave at the most at one time. Name, father's name, birth date, caste and other relevant information of the applicants have been given on police department's website www.uttarakhandpolice.uk.gov.in and Pantnagar University's website gbpuat.ac.in. If there are errors of name and address of the applicants, they can approach the district police office by Friday where they had earlier submitted their forms.

Moreover, the State police has also sent a proposal for the recruitment of 319 woman sub-inspectors to the State Government to meet the crunch of woman sub-inspectors in the department.
