Ex-CM pays visit to Kedarnath

Published on:

Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat travelled towards Kedarnath after passing through Bharadisain in Gairsain on the weekend. Taking the opportunity to question the functioning of and take a dig at the present State Government, he also carried a single-eye binocular with him to check the developmental works carried on by the state government.

Earlier, reaching the under-construction Vidhan Sabha building at Bharadisain in Gairsain, the former CM said that during the term of the Congress State Government under him, the construction of this building had been initiated. Funds had also been allocated for execution of developmental works in Gairsain but the present government appeared to have failed in facilitating the desired level of development here. He said that now, State Government of any dispensation cannot turn back on the issue of Gairsain.

While on his way to Rudraprayag, Rawat also interacted with Congress paty workers at Simli, Karnprayag and Gauchar where the party workers reiterated their commitment to work unitedly for the party candidate Jeet Ram in the Tharali Assembly constituency bypolls slated to be held later this month. Taking a dig at the state government, the former chief minister said that he was moving around with a binocular to check the progress of the works which had been started during the term of the Congress State Government. However, even then it was difficult to see what progress the current state government had achieved, he opined.

later while going on foot towards Kedarnath along with the Kedarnath MlA Manoj Rawat and Rajya Sabha MP Pradeep Tamta among others, the former CM interacted with the locals and pilgrims from other parts of India. He said that considering what he had observed on the way, the authorities seemed to have made little progress in improving the condition of the motor road up to Sonprayag. Rawat said that a woman pilgrim from Indore (Madhya Pradesh) had complained to him about the inconvenience being faced due to the status of toilet facilities on the route.

It will be recalled here that Rawat was earlier slated to trek to Kedarnath and reach the shrine on April 29 but had deferred his programme due to the plan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the shrine on that day when the portals were reopened to the public.
