In an interesting development, ‘disqualified’ MlA from Kedarnath Dr Shaila Rani Rawat moved the Supreme Court after the nine rebel Congress MlAs, including her, received a notice from the State estate department that asked them to vacate the official accommodation or bungalows they are occupying as MlAs with immediate effect.
The MlA cited the fact that with the case of their disqualification still pending with the Supreme Court, they could hardly be asked to vacate the flats or bungalows they are staying in. She prayed for an interim stay on the notice. The Apex Court accepted her argument and asked the estate department not to force them to vacate the official residences till the disqualification case is finally disposed of. It is learnt that the notice sent to the nine rebel Congress MlAs to vacate the official accommodations was served when the State was under the President’s Rule.
Supreme Court said that as the matter is pending before it they should be allowed to stay in the Government accommodation for now. It said the privileges they are enjoying should not be done away with.
It is to be noted that the Apex Court has set the next date of haring of the disqualification case on July 12.
