In order to bring the AIDS patients in the social mainstream, the Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society (USACS) is organising a series of sensitisation programes to create awareness among the masses.

The Additional Project Director of USACS Dr RK Pandey informed that a total of 77 such programmes would be organised this year. He said that on August 8 the members of medical staff and recruits were provided training on the mainstreaming of AIDS patients at the ITBP auditorium Dehradun.

In the programme 124 people were provided training by the Consultant Mainstreaming Padmini Malhotra. The joint director Uma Prakash elaborated the programmes of the USACS and Dr Rajiv made a presentation on the Basics of HIV/ AIDS.

The aim of these programmes is to create awareness about control and removal of discriminatory attitude towards the AIDS patients.  Mainstreaming is a strategy to control AIDS by involving multiple agencies and the National AIDS control programme has included it as one of the most important component in its projects.
