Even as mercury soaring up by the day drinking water supply continues to be erratic in many parts of the city, affecting normal life badly. With tube-wells becoming faulty in Haldwani’s Dahariya, Haldikhal and Unchapul areas, people from these parts are experiencing a tough time for many days together to meet their drinking water needs. Disruption in drinking water supply has also been reported from Haldwani’s Indira Nagar and its adjacent areas.
Though Jal Sansthan officials claimed that water tankers are being sent to the affected areas these alternative arrangements have not sufficed to solve the problem. However, Jal Sansthan officials expressed hope the non-functional tube-wells would be repaired soon to ensure the normal supply is restored.
The summer heat being on the rise is compounding the problem further. Occasional brief spells of rains fails to give much relief to the suffering people. "Things are grim with the summer heat combining with drinking water problem. Drinking water is scarce in many areas like Khanna Farm area, Kohali Colony, Bajrang Colony and its adjacent areas," said a resident of Haldwani, adding that the supply system would have to be revamped to stop it from recurring every year.
