Erratic power supply irks residents and industrialists

The industrial units are facing problems in SIIDCUL and Haridwar industrial area due to power cuts in the region. The residents of Jwalapur area are also facing problems due to the electricity supply being erratic. Most of the industrial units are forced to run their factories in early morning and night hours since peak time electricity supply is not smooth.

Maintenance manager at a pharmaceutical company in SIIDCUL said, “We have to reschedule are production shifts from general 9 to 5 pm to 6 am and 2.30 to save some diesel costs of running generator sets.”

A resident of Jwalapur, Bablu Kiran expressed his resentment over erratic power supply saying, “It has become a routine affair now. Every day the power cuts are imposed for about six hours. The short days in winters make the residents stay indoors but without electricity, it is difficult to get most works done. I dread the coming winter days when heater would be needed and one’s working capacity also drops and to add to the woes is power cut.”

Speaking to The Pioneer, executive engineer of the power corporation, Anup Saini said, “The production houses of electricity do have the power but there are some problems with the distribution of electricity in the desired measure. The production houses having capacity of 2700 million units are getting only 2640 million units. The tender process is on for more units and from January, the supply shall be in full capacity.”
