Ensure gas cylinders to disaster-hit, agencies told

The supply of lPG cylinders, petrol and diesel in the disaster affected areas has improved in the last four days, said IOC deputy manager (lPG Uttarakhand) Dhirendra Kumar on Wednesday.

All the gas agencies have been directed to ensure that gas connection holders are provided cylinders without delay, he added. Kumar said, “We have been in constant touch with the officials of Food and Civil Supply department and gas agencies in disaster affected districts. We started sending trucks loaded with lPG cylinders immediately after roads of affected areas were cleared”.

He further said that the company officials already deployed in these areas are monitoring the ground situation. “They inform us daily about the supply of lPG cylinders, petrol and diesel," he added. Uttarkashi food and civil supply inspector Rajesh Jaguri said that recently a truck carrying cylinders fell into a gorge at Dharusu.

Now, cylinders are supplied to the district by mini trucks. "District is supplied around 12000 lPG cylinders each month but this month we have received around only 6094 cylinders. Due to incessant rain followed by road blocks, the supply was disrupted for some days. Around 1500 cylinders were supplied in the district from the oil company in the last four days," he added.

Rudraprayag district food and civil supply officer Jagdish Verma said, “We have been receiving domestic and commercial cylinders from the oil companies for the last three days apart from petrol and diesel. As of now, there is no shortage of cooking gas in areas supplied by the company," he said. Chamoli DSO MS Rana said that lPG cylinders are being supplied to the district since Friday.
