The district administration of Udham Singh Nagar has distributed over two lakh cooked food packets since the implementation of lockdown in the State last month. The district administration is providing sufficient meals to those in need during the lockdown, especially labourers and daily wagers, according to district administration officials. As informed by the district’s Chief Development Officer (CDO) Mayur Dixit, about 20, 000 cooked food packets are being distributed in the district daily.

"Thousands of people are being provided meals by district administration on a daily basis. Though the distribution of food depends on the daily requirement of people, we generally distribute around 8000 to 10,000 dry ration kits daily in addition to around 20,000 cooked food packets," said Dixit. He added that the district administration has distributed over two lakh cooked food packets and about 45,000 dry ration kits so far.

The recipients of food packets and ration kits mainly include daily wagers and labourers who work in factories, a few senior citizens and the poor and destitute people, said Dixit.

He informed that meals are also provided to those who contact the administration through the helpline number. The CDO further informed that several local groups, Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and religious bodies like Gurudwaras are also helping the district administration in providing the meals to the needy.

The CDO also stated that the district administration has enough resources to provide ration and food to those in need during the extended lockdown till May 3.
