Gadarpur MlA Arvind Pandey who secured bail from the court in connection with the assault case involving  Naib Tehsildar Sher Singh would continue to languish in Haldwani jail as he has been tagged with several other cases lodged under different sections of law. The complaint  regarding which the BJP MlA secured bail was lodged by Singh and a case under sections 147/148/149/332/395 and sections under SC/ST Act was subsequently registered against Pandey and five of his named supporters and around a dozen unknown supporters.

However, the MlA would continue to spend days in the jail as several cases related to offences  alleged committed by  him in Kashipur are continuing, said the superintendent of jail, Haldwani TD Joshi on Saturday.

On September 10, Kashipur court had sent Pandey to jail in connection with three previous criminal cases (FIR numbers-235/13, 315/13 and 198/14) registered against him in Bazpur police station. The previous cases the MlA has been tagged with vary from forcibly stopping government works to taking out rallies in violation of the orders and the like.

Speaking of one of such cases, a Bazpur police station officer had said that then SI Pankaj Joshi had registered a complaint and a case (FIR-198/14) under sections 153/153a/186/353/341/504/506 of IPC and 7 Criminal law Amendment (ClA) Act had been lodged in Bazpur police station. In regards to FIR number 235, a case under section 143/341 and 7 ClA Act was registered against MlA Pandey in Bazpur police station, he said. In regards to FIR number 315/13, a case under sections 143/353/504 of IPC and 7 ClA Act was also registered against MlA Pandey in Bazpur police station.

Notably, Pandey had called off his hunger strike on October 11 which he had started in the jail campus from October 6, protesting against the shutdown of a Gadarpur-based sugarcane mill. He was kept under medical observation at ICU in Dr Susheela Tiwari Government Hospital in Haldwani after condition started deteriorating.

Several important leaders across the political spectrum had met him and urged him to end the fasting to which he responded.
