Election effect: results of U’khand board to delay

The announcement of the results of the class X and XII of Uttarakhand board examination would get delayed at least by a week due to the Lok Sabha elections. The Uttarakhand Vidhyalayi Shiksha Parishad (UVSP) popularly called Uttarakhand Board started the process of the evaluation of the answer sheets of the students on Saturday. This process usually starts on April 1 and ends by third week of April. This year the Lok Sabha elections, the polling for which was held in the state on April 11 resulted in delay in the evaluation as the teachers, other staff members of education department and employees of Uttarakhand board were assigned for the election duties. The class X and XII examinations of Uttarakhand board started on March 1 and concluded on March 26.

The Secretary of the UVSP, Neeta Tiwari said that the process of the evaluation would be completed in next twenty days. She hoped that the board would be able to release the result by the first week of June. The UVSP usually releases the result in last week of May.

She said that more than 4500 teachers would evaluate the answer sheets of the students. The UVSP has set up 30 evaluation centres across the state.

The board has also made strict security arrangements around these evaluation centres and vigil would be maintained during transport of these sheets to these centres.  The secretary UVSP further added that special training sessions were held in the Ramnagar office of the board on April 16 to April 18 in which the master trainers gave training to evaluators.

After the process of evaluation the UVSP would start preparation for declaration of the results. Laying emphasis on quality in assessment of answer sheets, the board secretary said that entire process of the evaluation would be closely monitored and no laxity would be tolerated. She said that the evaluators have been asked to adopt step wise pattern of evaluation. Under this pattern the evaluators divide the answer in steps and award marks accordingly. The students get more marks in this pattern of evaluation. Facing flak for being stingy in awarding marks when compared with other boards the UVSP officials are leant to have told the evaluators to focus on positive things in the answer sheets and be lenient in awarding marks to the students.

A total of 149737 candidates were registered for High school (Class X) examination of the board while 124183 candidates were enrolled for Inter (Class XII) examination of the board.
