The passing out parade of the recruits of Uttarakhand police held on the weekend at the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) ground in Rudrapur was all the more marked by the presence of eight young ladies from a small village who have set a motivating example for others to follow. The eight young women from the Shantipuri village said to have been settled by Govind Ballabh Pant set an example for the young generation by passing out after a training period of about nine months.
It is pertinent to mention here that like in some other parts of the state, the youth in this region of the state also focus of hard work in preparation for selection in the armed forces and police while pursuing their academic studies. However, observers opine that the Shantipuri village is more often in the news for the wrong reasons like illegal mining and smuggling of liquor. Many may also complain about this issue citing these factors.
However, it is not as if the Shantipuri elicits attention only for illegal mining and activities of the liquor mafia. In the present times, there are many youngsters who are busy preparing for trying out their luck in the selection process for the armed forces, the police and other professions.
A fitting example of this dedication to improve their lot was presented by the eight young women of Shantipuri who were part of the passing out parade and came out as constables after this function. Residents of Shantipuri, Ritu Koranga, Priyanka Koranga, Shweta Mehta, Rekha Mehta, Manju Bisht, Beena Mehta, lata Joshi and Pinki Joshi underwent a hard training for a period of nine months after which they were able to become constables.
Apart from these young ladies who are now constables donning the khaki uniform, another resident of Shantipuri, Neelam Mehta was also successful in securing a place for herself on the merit list and on the basis of that is currently undergoing training for the post of a sub inspector.
All these young ladies are being seen as source of major motivation for the youths- especially the women of the region. State Congress general secretary Ganesh Upadhyay opined that at a time when the women are forging ahead in spheres which were earlier considered to be male dominated, the young ladies of Shantipuri will provide considerable inspiration to other youth from the region for pursuing their goals with hard work and dedication.
