Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with the traditional gaiety and religious fervour here on Saturday, marking the end of the Islamic month of fasting, Ramzan. The celebrations began officially after the moon was sighted. Eid-ul-Fitr is also called the Feast of Breaking the Fast. The auspicious Eid conveys the message of peace and harmony to one and all.
In the famed hill station, it was the festive spirit that reigned all throughout the day with the elderly and the young participating in the celebration with zeal and devotion. It has now assumed an all-embracing and inclusive character with people across the religious spectrum celebrating it and greeting others, praying for peace and harmony.
The celebrations began with the holy Namaz held in the mosques. It went on for close to an hour. Thereafter, they hugged one another- something that epitomizes the true message of Eid, universal brotherhood. “I wait for this day every year eagerly. I go to a picnic spot along with my Ammi,” said a nine- year- old Majid.
“I am mostly occupied with cooking and attending to the guests. My husband comes over and helps me with the work and when we are free wego out to spend some family time together,” said a local resident, Bilkish.
Eid is about joy and gratitude along with an important aspect of delicious food. The traditional sweet ‘sheerkhurma’ and ‘biryani’ delight all. People of all ages look forward for the same on this day.
