Education deptt decides to go on massive plantation drive

Published on:

The education department has decided to undertake a large scale plantation drive in the schools and offices of the department in the ensuing monsoon season. The department has made plans for a massive plantation exercise on July 25.

Under the plan one sapling each would be planted by every student, teacher, employee and Principal in the drive. The aim of the exercise is to develop an ownership of the sapling planted so that it grows into a big tree. The forest department nurseries would provide plants to school for drive.

In an order directed to the Director General (DG) education and all Chief Education Officers (CEO) the education secretary Bhupinder Kaur ‘ Aulakh’ said that the comprehensive plantation drive ‘ Mera Paudha’ should be undertaken in a mission mode in all the educational institutes of the state. She said that it is generally observed that the educational institutes and the offices of the department have large availability of land but in absence of proper upkeep there are chances of encroachment of this land.

She added that the proper record of the saplings planted during the drive should be kept and the district project offices would provide the number of saplings planted.
