The education department is gearing up for the transfers of the school teachers of Government schools. The transfers this time would be a test of the newly implemented teachers transfer policy. It is worth mentioning here that the transfer of teachers is a perennially controversial issue and faced with severe criticism the State Government brought forth Uttarakhand school teacher first appointment, promotion transfer posting (fourth amendment) guidelines 2014 (Teachers Transfer Policy’ in popular parlance), in the month of December last year.
On Tuesday the Director General (DG) of school education D Senthil Pandian, in terse letter asked the Directors of Secondary education, Primary education and Academic Research and Training to strictly follow the transfer policy while doing the transfers of department personnel. He reminded these officers that the department has a proper transfer policy for all types of the employees which should be followed both in letter and spirit. Pandian warned of strict disciplinary action if any case/cases of transfer in violation of the policy are brought to his notice.
With more than 75000 employees, the education department is the biggest department in terms of numbers in the State Government. The transfers of the teachers would be done both on the basis of normal process and on request. In the normal process the teachers posted in the schools located in inaccessible areas for long would be given priority. In the on-request transfer the teachers suffering from illness or any other problem would submit their application for the transfers.
