Taking cognisance of a report published in The Pioneer on June 3 (Inspection reveals Govt school closed, teachers absent), the Education Department has withheld one day’s salaries of four teachers found absent from the Government junior high school at Kimana on Monday. The principal of another government school has been directed to conduct an inquiry into the absenteeism of faculty from this school and submit the inquiry report without delay.
Talking to The Pioneer, the block education officer Vivek Panwar informed that one day’s salary of four school teachers has been withheld while the principal of the Government school at Helang has been directed to inquire into absenteeism in this school and submit his report soon. It will be recalled that students of the government junior high school at remote village Kimana in Joshimath development block have been suffering for some time now due to the habitual absenteeism of the four teachers appointed here.
On Monday, the Kimana village Pradhan Kalavati Devi had visited the government junior high school only to find it locked. The students had reached the school in the morning but none of the staff was present. She had also informed the officials concerned about this. The residents of Kimana complain that earlier there were more than 40 students in this government school but in this academic session more than 15 students have left for other schools due to the deteriorated level of school here resulting from absenteeism of teachers.
