The education department suspended more than 15 teachers of various Government schools for not joining their new posts after being transferred under the Uttarakhand Teacher Transfer Policy 2013.
The department had released transfer list of 948 primary school teachers and 667 higher secondary school teachers in the second week of September this year, said School Education director CS Gwal while talking to The Pioneer on Sunday. “We have already stopped releasing salaries to those teachers who were transferred under the policy but have not yet joined their new posts,” he added.
Gwal said that with the direction to join their new post, the education department had served several notices to the school teachers who were transferred under the policy. After reviewing transfer list and status of teachers joining in schools with the district education officers, those teachers who have not joined their assigned schools yet will be suspended on Monday, he added.
School education director (basic) RK Kunwar said that school teachers who were transferred under the policy have been enough time to join their new post. Four teachers of primary and junior high schools were suspended in Pauri while six were suspended in Dehradun and one in Champawat after being caught not joining their new posts after release of transfer list in the State.
All the district education officers have been directed to suspend all those teachers on Monday who have not joined their new posts,” he added. According to him, hundred percent teachers joined in their new posts after being transferred to the schools located in accessible area from the schools located in inaccessible area in the State.
The education department reports revealed around 150 teachers of Government higher secondary school and 300 teachers of Government primary and junior high schools who were transferred to the schools located in inaccessible area from accessible area have not joined their new post. It is worth mentioning here that the reluctance of teachers to work in remote rural areas is one of the reasons for the consistently deteriorating level of education in Government schools.
