Edu dept heat on absentee teachers

Reacting swiftly after Chief Minister Harish Rawat gave stern warning to the education department officials to improve the sorry state of affairs, the Director General of School Education, Radhika Jha has asked all the senior department officers to conduct Special Extensive Inspection in the schools which fall under their jurisdiction.

In a letter directed to all Chief Education Officers (CEO), District Education Officers (DEO), Block Education Officers (BEO) and Deputy BEO,  Jha highlighted the need to conduct extensive inspections to ensure attendance of teachers in the schools.

Expressing her serious concern over increasing absence of teachers from the schools Jha said that the performance of the students in the board examination is taking a dip in the state due to this habit of some teachers.

In her order she has asked the officers to initiate strict disciplinary action against those teachers who are found absent without leave applications and adopt no work no pay while dealing such cases. Expressing concern on the practice of proxy teachers she said that FIRs should be lodged against the teachers and the proxy teachers immediately.

The Director General of School education said that absentee teachers, teachers engaged in irregularities in implementing Mid Day Meal (MDM) and those found engaged in other indiscipline during the inspection should be immediately suspended and they should be handed over the charge sheet within three working days.

She further elaborated that decision like reinstating/ termination in such cases should be taken within seven days after hearing the plea of suspended teachers.

In her order Jha has clearly stated that in those schools where more 50 Percent teachers in Primary schools and 75 Percent teachers in High schools are found absent in three inspections the school Principals and BEO concerned would also face disciplinary action.
