Taking exception to the practice in the schools of refusing admission to the transgender children or dissuading them from taking admission, the education department has issued a directive, asking the schools to treat them as normal students.
In a letter directed to the director education R K Kunwar, the secretary, education, Bhupinder Kaur Aulakh said that the practice of discrimination towards the children of third gender/ transgender is very unfortunate which prevents such children from getting educated or coming into the national mainstream.
She said that the education department should ensure that the transgender children are not discriminated against and are given admission in all the educational institutions.
