State IG Deepam Seth has been appointed the in-charge of the newly formed Economic Offence Wing. This wing would investigate cases related to economic offences. This apart, the wing would monitor the investigations of cases related to land forgeries reported at Special Investigation Team (SIT), Garhwal and Kumaon ranges, said DGP MA Ganapathy. In view of spiraling economic offences, especially  those  related  to fraudulent sale of lands and taking money from banks on forged documents  in the state, the wing has been constituted to curb the trends, he added.

An office has been set up at police headquarters and later, a police station would be set up for the same purpose, he added. He further said that police personnel working with the wing would identify the economic offenders apart from collecting information related to the persons allegedly involved in land related offences. This wing would also prepare a detailed compilation of documents highlighting persons involved in economic offences in the state.
