The entire process for the lok Sabha elections would be completed before May 21 and the Election Commission is geared up for the task. Vinod Jutshi, the Deputy Election Commissioner, said this while talking with the media here on Thursday.
Jutshi said that the process of deleting names from the electoral rolls is being centralised to reduce the complaints about deletion. The deletion of names from the electoral rolls is a contentious issue and the political parties generally blame each other for deletion of names of their supporters in elections. Vinod Jutshi informed that all the district election officers have been asked to issue a help line number, people can give a call on this number and verify their names in the voter lists. He said that the process of addition of new names in the electoral rolls would continue till the notification of the parliamentary elections.
Responding to the question of increasing the limit of expenditure in the lok Sabha elections, Jutshi said a decision on this is yet to be taken. He said that the State Election Commission should keep a close watch on the movement of cash and liquor during the elections and the surveillance machinery for these mal practices should be created. Radha Raturi the Chief Election Officer of Uttarakhand accompanied Jutshi on the occasion.
