Earmark proper stops for city buses: RTA Chairman to SSP

Published on:

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Chairman and Garhwal Commissioner, CS Napalchyal has asked the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun to earmark proper stops for the city buses.

The RTA chairman has written a letter to the SSP on the complaint of President of City buses association, Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal that the city police are unnecessarily harassing the city bus operators.

Napalchiyal said that since City buses are having Stage carriage permit to facilitate city transport they should be provided bus stops on the routes of the city.

He has also asked the district police to prevent illegal plying of the Tempos and Vikrams on the roads of the city so that the orders of the High Court dated May 27, 2014 are implemented.

It is worth mentioning here that Dehradun police in an effort to streamline the city traffic is taking action on the city buses and was preventing them to pick passengers on busy traffic junctions. This move of the police has irked the city buses operators and they are demanding of earmarking of places from where they can pick and drop passengers.

The President of the city bus association had complained to the RTA commissioner that the illegal Vikrams and Tempo operators are the actual cause of traffic jams in the State capital.

He also claimed that these illegal vehicles are also causing noise and air pollution in the city. The city bus operators and Vikrams and Tempo operators are always at loggerheads on the issue of permits.

The Vikram operators are demanding that the transport department should convert their permits from contract carriage to stage carriage so that they are allowed to pick retail customers on select routes of the city. This demand is being opposed vehemently by the city bus operators.
