DVWM refuses to return 20 wards to MCD

Opposing the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun's (MCD) decision of withdrawing 20 wards from the Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM), Siddharth Jain, CEO, of the company said that MCD has no right to take away even a single ward from the company.

He said that the MCD officials still seem to be unaware of the terms of the MoU signed between the company and MCD.

There is no such clause mentioned in the MoU related to the withdrawal of the wards, he maintained.

Infuriated with the MCD officials' decision, Jain said that they won't be handing over the responsibility of waste disposal in 20 wards to the MCD and also informed that the sanitation works are still being carried on by the company employees and that the company will continue work in all the 60 wards of the town.

Recently, Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Ashok Kumar, after a meeting with Minister for Urban Development, Pritam Singh Panwar, had decided to withdraw the garbage disposal responsibility of 20 wards from the company.

The decision was taken after a complete analysis of the works of DVWM, citing which Kumar had said that the employees of the company had failed to maintain the sanitation arrangement of the city, which has badly affected the level of sanitation in the State capital.

Thereafter it was decided that the responsibility of 20 wards would be looked after by the MCD and company would continue its work in remaining 40 wards of the city.

MCD officials also claimed that the company has failed to disburse salaries to its employees on time and that it has still not repaired its out of order vehicles.

Principal Secretary, Urban Development, MH Khan also issued necessary guidelines for improving the work quality of the company two days back. Khan had also instructed MCD officials to share their part of responsibility as well.
