Taking cognisance of the existing irregularities in the sanitation arrangements of the city, officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) have asked the Doon Valley Waste Management (DVWM) company to return the machinery and vehicles used for sanitation works in 20 wards to MCD without any delay.
In a meeting held with senior city health officer Dr RK Singh, additional Mukhya Nagar Adhikari Harshvardhan Mishra, sanitation inspector Jagdish Chandra and other MCD officials, CEO of DVWM, Siddharth Jain was instructed to return 63 vehicles of MCD including 60 cycle rickshaws, two dumper placer vehicles and one RC to the corporation.
However, in response to this, Jain said that the solid waste management project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission was approved by Government of Uttarakhand (GoU), Urban Development Ministry, Urban Development Directorate and board members of MCD hence the officials of corporation have no right to withdraw the vehicles from the company.
Refusing to give back the vehicles to the MCD officials he stated that there is no such clause mentioned in the MoU of the project.
While criticising the MCD officials for the existing irregularities in the sanitation works of the State capital, Jain said, “The officials of MCD appear to be planning to make the city dirty. It is the corporation's job to clean the roads and drainage but it is not doing so even in the 20 wards recently withdrawn from our charge.
It is only the attitude of the corporation officials which has become a major hindrance in the functioning of the company.
If the MCD officials don’t interrupt and create hurdles in the sanitation arrangement, the company would surely make the city one of the cleanest cities of the nation," claimed Jain.
