In a bid to promote handicrafts and provide marketing opportunities to the traders and local craftsmen, the State Government has launched Gandhi Craft Baazar in Haldwani with 125 stalls being put up.
The Ministry of Textile, Government of India and the State Industry department are jointly organising it. State Minister for labour and Small Scale Industry Harish Chandra Durgapal inaugurated the 10-day Gandhi Craft Baazar here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Durgapal said such kind of craft fairs were a must to encourage the traders and craftsmen. The Government was committed to promoting small scale industries and handicrafts in the State and as many as 20 such craft fairs would be organised across the State in time to come, he added. Demand for ‘khadi’ keeps mounting in the country and abroad. We must tap it adequately in the state where the potential is great, he said.

More so, the traders engaged in ‘kahadi’ and handicraft sector will be given due returns, heassured.  He urged the people to start their own trades and take the most of the schemes the Government has launched to promote the small scale industry. Thus self-employment will help reduce unemployment, he said. At the same time, the minister appealed to the people to purchase such products to boost the craftsmen.
