Dug-up road causing frequent mishaps

Published on:

A 100 metre stretch of the road in Vishnuvihar Colony, Ajabpurkala near Haridwar Bypass Road has been causing frequent mishaps. This stretch of the road was excavated for sewer works months ago and not filled up properly.

With the authorities remaining apathetic to the situation, the colony residents have now decided to stage a protest at the residence of the local MlA Umesh Sharma 'Kau' and take their complaint to him.

Colony residents complain that this road was dug up months ago for sewer works and left in that state.

last month a tractor got stuck in one such ditch on the road. This incident was published in some newspapers after which workers filled some of the ditches with dry soil.

On being asked by the colony residents, the workers said that the contractor had provided them material to fill only two ditches on the road.

At present the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that apart from two-wheeler riders even pedestrians- especially school children are tripping and getting injured due to the ditches on this road.

The colony residents state that whereas at least two truckloads of soil and gravel are required to fill in the ditches and level the road, the contractor sends only one small loader of the material for this purpose.

The locals further allege that when the road was

dug up some months ago for laying sewer line, the

contractor took away half of the excavated soil in a truck to some other place.

After that the ditches have been filled merely for formality as the condition of the road is such that the covered portions of the ditches continue to sink in lower by the day.

This is leading to a spate of mishaps involving vehicle users and pedestrians. The residents have now decided to demonstrate at the residence of their local MlA Umesh Sharma 'Kau' and submit a memorandum demanding immediate repair work.

It is pertinent to mention here that the roads were

excavated for civic works and were not properly filled and leveled after that is a major problem in various localities of the State capital. This causes considering inconvenience to the public, but the authorities have remained apathetic towards this problem.
