A member of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya’s (DSVV) National Service Scheme (NSS) team has brought laurels to Uttarakhand by getting included in a 30-member team chosen by the Union Ministry of Sports for a trip to Palestine. Under the students’ exchange programme, the student had a brush-up with the culture of Palestine. Besides, the student apprised those of Palestine of what Indian culture and traditions stand for.

On returning home from the trip, Prachi said that she was introduced to the geographical and cultural aspects of the country on the first day of the trip as the team was taken to Techno Park and various educational institutions of the country.

later, an introductory talk was arranged with the students of Palestine who had their queries regarding Indian culture and traditions answered by  the Indian delegation. “I was so thrilled while I spoke of the Indian sanskars to the students of that country who were   mainly Muslims. I told them that the aspect of the Indian culture we pride ourselves on the most is the concept of the oneness of the humanity and of one world that is not broken into fragments by the narrow walls of race, religion, colour and country. They sounded highly appreciative of the beauty of the Indian saree and the way the body is draped in a six- metre saree elegantly.  My cultural performance was also appreciated there,” said Prachi while speaking to The Pioneer.

“It was interesting to learn how they greet one another.  We as Indians were given a lot of respect by the students of Palestine. This is thanks to the greatness of the Indian culture. Consequently we have become all the more proud of being Indians,” added Prachi.

Besides, the technical advancement in the field of agriculture in Palestine impressed the Indian delegation, she said. “They are using state of the art technology to enhance their agricultural produce despite the region struck with acute water scarcity. We were really impressed over their zeal to overcome the limitations of nature,” she said.

Pro vice-chancellor DSVV Chinmaya Pandya said, “Such student exchange programmes enable the students to understand each other. Besides, cultural exchange is an effective means for building good relations among the countries. I always encourage the students to make project reports of their visits and share experiences acquired in alien lands with fellow students in the form of presentation.”

NSS director Dr Parasher awarded Prachi for her performance during the trip.
