As most of the ATMs located in the city remain dry for days on end with little possibility of their being replenished with cash soon, the people who need money to buy things are perforce getting into the online modes of transactions. Sachin lingwal, a student from Srinagar Gharwal now studying in Dehradun city, said, “Online money transfer has proved a boon to me as I hardly receive money from my parents regularly.”
Not just the students but the shopkeepers are also benefiting from the online mode of the transactions. Hemant Anand, a general store keeper, said, “People these days keep asking for swipe machines and paytms. This might be because of the dryness of the ATMs. Besides, the discount they can avail through adopting online mode of transactions is an added incentive for them. We are happy too as things are turning simpler for us. We need not give them the changes which we must in case things are done through cash,” he said. He further said that they must be on their guard as some of the customers tend to dupe them by using spurious paytm apps.
Anveer Chauhan, a resident of the city, said, “UPI has changed my life as now I can send and receive money without the need of any app, internet connection or any other portal. I just need a network connection in my phone and the entire bill on the go is paid”.
While a section of the people is benefitting from the online mode of transaction there are, however, many who suffer the pinch of things as they are not tech savvy to go online for daily purchases.
